markets and fairs

Here’s a list of local (and not so local) market and fairs.

At the municipal market, mercado municipal in Sobral de Monte Agraco, next to the buss station, you can get local produce daily. On the first Saturday of every month there is a  market on the other side of the buss station.

Malveira, which lies 15 min south west of Gozundeira has quite a big market every Thursday. Here you can buy local produce, clothes, tools, pottery and there is also a fish market in the center of the whole. There are even a few second hand stalls.

Runa, which lies a few kilometers to the north has a medium sized market on Tuesdays.

On the first Saturday of every month the Feira Rural in Torres Vedras sports local produce.

One of our favorites is the flea market Feira da Ladra in Lisbon. Thought to mean thieves market but it actually gets it name from a wood eating insect called ladro. It materializes in the streets around Campo the Santa Clara every Saturday morning. The flea market is close to the Santa Apolonia train station and the early train from Gozundeira takes you to Santa Apolonia.

A bit further away, en route to the Setúbal, there is a large market near the village of Azeitao.  The market is held on the first Sunday of every month. (aprox. 1 hour drive)
